Kathmandu, May 24: Polish climber Piotr Jerzy Krzyzowski has made history by becoming the first and fastest person to climb both Lhotse and Everest without supplemental oxygen. This historic achievement was made in 1 day, 23 hours and 22 minutes.

Krzyzewski reached the summit of Lhotse, the fourth-highest mountain in the world (8,516m) on May 21 at 2:38 pm, said Thaneswar Guragai, General Manager of Seven Summit Treks, a leading Kathmandu-based expedition operator. Just two days later, he made another historic achievement, summiting Mt Everest, the world’s highest peak, soaring to 8,848.86m above sea level on May 23 at 2:00 pm.

He achieved this feat as part of the SST Everest-Lhotse Expedition.

Krzyzowski’s achievement took place under the extraordinary conditions, making the summits a record. He ascended both peaks without supplemental oxygen, without Sherpa assistance, and without descending to Camp 2 or Base Camp between the summits, highlighting a new pinnacle of minimalist, and self-reliant alpinism, said Guragai.

His journey began with the ascent of Lhotse, reaching the summit on May 21 and marking the halfway point of his ambitious plan for a record. On May 23, Krzyzowski’s perseverance culminated in reaching Everest’s summit at 2:00 pm.

Achieving two higher 8000ers without supplemental oxygen and support underscores the remarkable accomplishment, showcasing an extraordinary level of determination, he said.
