Kathmandu, July 26: Ambassador of Australia to Nepal Felicity Volk has offered her support to four-time Nepal champion Santoo Shrestha, who is competing in the Preliminary round of the Men’s Singles Table Tennis event in the Paris Olympics that begins today. Shrestha is scheduled to face Ibrahima Diaw of Senegal in his first match.
Shrestha qualified for the competition, becoming the first Nepali table tennis player to qualify for the Olympics. He beat his compatriot Samyog Kapali 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9 in the final of the 2024 South Asian Qualification Tournament, which was held in Table Tennis Training Centre in Kathmandu.
“Santoo has been training in Australia while studying there. So we are watching his Olympics journey with keen interest, wrote Ambassador Volk on social media, “I also applaud over 10,500 athletes from across the world for their dedication and achieving the extraordinary success of being chosen to compete in the Olympics.”
Australia will also welcome athletes, coaches, and spectators from around the globe to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, according to the Australian Embassy.
