Carstensz Pyramid
Carstensz Pyramid, also known as Puncak Jaya and Peak of the White Arrow, is one of the Seven Summits. Soaring to a height of 4,884 metres, the mountain is widely accepted as the highest mountain of Australia and Oceania combined, making it an important peak for the Seven Summits challenge.
Located in a remote region of the island of New Guinea, climbing the mountain is a technical challenge despite its lower elevation. Discovered by Dutch explorer Jan Carstenszoon in 1623, the mountain, which was later named after him, is the highest island peak on Earth and the tallest mountain in Indonesia. The first successful ascent wasn’t achieved until 1962.
The mountain faced access restriction since 2019 due to security issues and the COVID-19 pandemic.
With a limited number of permits issued this year, SST has secured exclusive access for its expedition.
