Kathmandu, Aug 31: Over 5,000 dengue patients have been recorded across the country. According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, dengue infection has been recorded in all districts except Humla and Mustang.

Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Head of the Division’s NTD & Vector Borne Disease Control Division, the total 5,589 people have been infected with dengue. Similarly, three people have died due to dengue infection. Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species of mosquito bloom in a clean place where water accumulates and the larvae emerge, and people are infected with the disease through the bite of adult larvae.

Gandaki province experiences highest infection

Gandaki province has recorded highest number of infection. According to the Division, 2,440 have been recorded in the province. Followed by 1,486 infections in Bagmati, 749 in Koshi, 418 in Lumbini, 334 in Sudurpaschim, 86 in Madhes, and 76 in Karnali.

Kathmandu Valley records over 600 infections

The Kathmandu Valley recorded 616 infections (466 in Kathmandu district, 88 in Lalitpur and 62 in Bhaktapur).

Meanwhile, in the wake of the disease, the Ministry of Health and Population has requested people to carry out ‘Find and Destroy Mosquitoes’ campaign while cleaning up the premises of government and non-government offices and hospitals every Friday. The government has managed free dengue tests at government hospitals.

68 cholera patients

Similarly, according to the Division, there are 68 cholera patients across the country.

Dr Dahal said that cholera patients have been recorded Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pyuthan, Makwanpur and Kailali. According to him, 48 cholera cases have been confirmed in Lalitpur, nine in Kathmandu, eight in Kailali, two in Pyuthan and one in Makwanpur.
