Banke, Sept 3: Four persons, including three of a single family, have been confirmed dead due to diarrhea at Gegli village of Narainapur Rural Municipality-3 in Banke, said health workers. Narendra Shrestha, information officer for the Health Office Banke and focal person of epidemic disease, informed that four people died in the past 72 hours due to lack of water in their bodies. The deceased included a child.
“The deceased could not get treatment on time. According to the relatives of the deceased, they lacked water in their bodies due to diarrhoea,” said Nagendra Shah, head of the health branch of the rural municipality.
However, the communicable disease that spread across the village since August 30, 2024 has not become an epidemic, he said.
Diarrhoea infection first spread from the house of Shyam Lal Pasi in Narainapur-3.
Shah informed that the deceased were treated at an Indian clinic by their relatives before the district health office was informed about their death.
The deceased have been identified as 75-year-old Shanti Pasi, her 26-year-old daughter-in-law Usha Pasi and a one-year-old girl from the same family. They died on August 30 and 31, and September 1 respectively.
“Their lives could be saved, had they got a timely treatment,” he said.
