Kathmandu : Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, has stressed the protection of professional rights of journalists.
At a programme organized by the Sancharika Samuha to congratulate and extend best wishes to the newly elected office-bearers of the Federation of Nepali Journalists here Wednesday, Minister Paudel shared that the FNJ should resolve problems related to professional safety of working journalists.
“It is matter of pride to get the first woman leadership by FNJ. Now FNJ should take necessary initiatives to resolve problems seen in journalism sector”, he mentioned.
The Health Minister argued that the role of journalism is significant to end corruption, establish good governance and change political system of the country, laying emphasis on the need of efforts to address the problems of media sector like remuneration.
Similarly, Chairperson of the National Women Commission, Kamala Parajuli, pointed out the need of increasing women participation in Nepali media. Likewise, newly elected FNJ President Nirmala Sharma said support from all sides was must to save FNJ prestige.
“We all should continue voice in favour of press freedom and freedom of expression. Discussion should be held to resolve problems of media that are at risk in recent period. Increase in investment for capacity building of journalists is equally imperative”, she argued.
