Kathmandu, April 25 – Today marks a significant milestone in U.S.–Nepal relations as the two nations commemorate 78 years of diplomatic partnership and reflect on the 10th anniversary of the devastating 2015 earthquake that reshaped countless lives across Nepal.

A decade ago, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, claiming thousands of lives and leaving deep scars on the country’s infrastructure and cultural heritage. In the aftermath, the United States stood firmly with Nepal—launching rapid humanitarian assistance, search-and-rescue missions, and long-term reconstruction support.

A commemorative video released today highlights the joint efforts made by the two countries: saving lives, rebuilding communities, and restoring cultural landmarks. Since 2015, the U.S. and Nepal have deepened their collaboration by conducting joint military trainings, constructing earthquake-resilient infrastructure, enhancing early warning systems, and strengthening disaster preparedness at all levels of government.

The U.S. Embassy paid tribute to the heroes of the earthquake response, including six U.S. Marines and two Nepal Army officers who lost their lives during a rescue operation in the aftermath of the quake.

“We are proud to stand with Nepal—not just in times of crisis, but in preparation—working together for a safer, stronger future,” the U.S. Embassy stated.
