KATHMANDU: Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI) had taken under control a vehicle belonging to the Chinese Embassy, which has been on the DRI premises for one year.
DRI claimed that it had been taken under control for being used for smuggling goods through Rasuwa transit. However, a detailed investigation has not yet been carried out.
The vehicle has a registration number of Chinese authority and had been taken under control with valuable goods, a highly-placed source claimed. However, a detailed investigation of the incident could be carried out smoothly.
The department had taken under control of the vehicle manufactured by Toyota on the basis of information that it was being smuggled from car to car.
Embassy employees are allowed to bring certain baggage with the facility of exemption. Such exemptions have been misused and some others have been smuggling goods using the facility of exemption.
