Chitwan, Oct 5: Following persistent rainfall, essential light vehicles that were halted due to the risk of landslides are now permitted to proceed to their destinations. Traffic on the Narayangadh–Muglin road section and the Chitwan-bound segment of the Prithvi Highway had been suspended since 6:00 PM on Saturday.

According to Ravidra Khanal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, stones, muds and landslides have occurred at multiple locations along the Narayangadh–Muglin road and the Chitwan section of the Prithvi Highway. However, the minor landslides have been removed, allowing essential light vehicles to continue their journeys. Long-distance vehicles remain halted due to the potential for landslides on the roads, which have been affected by rain that commenced on Friday evening.

He noted that, in line with traffic management and emergency vehicle stopping protocols, vehicles heading to Kathmandu have been stopped at various locations, including Fisling, Kurintar, and Muglin in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality; Jugedi, Ramnagar, and Amptari in Bharatpur Metropolitan City; Pokhara Bus Park, Bypass Road, Central Bus Terminal, Gondrang; as well as Shanti Chowk Tandi, Chaubiskothi Khairahani, Daduwa Bazaar Bhandara, and Lothar Bazaar in Eastern Chitwan.

He also reported that landslides and fallen rocks have obstructed roads in districts such as Dhading and Tanahun. The police have urged that vehicles at the ‘holding centers’ in various areas across the districts remain stationary until the roadblocks are cleared and depending on the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

He further indicated that vehicles will be permitted to proceed once the situation has been evaluated.
