Kathmandu: Mendoza Mayor Ulpiano Suarez welcomed renowned Nepali mountaineers, Tashi Lakpa Sherpa and Nima Rinji Sherpa following their successful summit of Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America, in Argentina.
During the meeting, the climbers shared their experience on the peak as well as in the province and ways to promote mountain tourism. The discussion highlighted the quality of tourist services, and hospitality in the province.
Mayor Suarez shared the city’s development model, emphasising its progress as one of the South America’s best managed mountain cities, from which Tashi Lakpa noted Nepal could learn to develop the country’s mountain cities.
The meeting also discussed the potential establishment of a sister city relation between Mendoza and mountain cities of Nepal. The mountaineers who scaled Aconcagua on January 28 included from Nepal, the UK, Argentina, Mexico, and Kuwait.
Tashi Lakpa, Seven Summit Treks’ Managing Director and founder of 14 Peaks Expedition, set a world record becoming the youngest climber to scale Mt Everest without bottled oxygen at the age of 19. Nima Rinji is the youngest mountaineer to complete all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.
