Kathmandu : As cloudy weather persists across the country, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred in several districts across the country on Friday, with Jhapa recording the highest amount.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Jhapa received the highest rainfall, measuring 129 millimeters (mm) in the past 24 hours.
Dinkar Kayastha, Information Officer at the Department, shared that districts such as Kaski, Lamjung, Tanahu, Chitwan and Ilam also experienced heavy rainfall (above 50 mm) during the same period. He indicated that cloudy conditions are likely to prevail for few more days across the country.

At present, rainfall is occurring in Tanahu, Makawanpur and Bara among other districts. However, areas west of Gandaki Province did not record rainfall on Friday.

Strong winds coupled with thunder and hailstorms were reported in some places. Earlier on Thursday, Chitwan recorded 126 mm of rains within 12 hours.
The Department, issuing a weather bulletin on Friday evening, said that Nepal is currently under the partial influence of westerly winds along with a low-pressure system near the eastern belt of the country. At present, hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces are generally cloudy while similar areas of other remaining provinces are partly cloudy.

Some places in hilly areas of Gandaki Province and few areas of the Terai region of the Bagmati Province are currently experiencing moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning. The Department has predicted that the mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces would remain generally cloudy while the weather in other areas is expected to be partly cloudy this night.
