Brisbane: Fiona Simpson, Queensland’s Minister for Women, Women’s Economic Security, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, and Minister for Multiculturalism, has encouraged Nepalese cricket players in Queensland to continue pursuing their dreams through sports.
She asked the cricket players associated with Maroochydore Nepalese Cricket Club to continue working hard and keep building the dream through teamwork, dedication and community unity.

During a community interaction featured on “Happy Show Australia”, the first Nepali talk show from the Nepali community in Brisbane hosted by Bijay Luitel, Minister Simpson met and lauded members of the Nepalese cricket community for their dedication to the sport. The programme is shared through YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

Minister Simpson commended the players for their passion for cricket and their positive contribution to Queensland’s multicultural community, highlighting the “important role” of sports in bringing people together and creating opportunities for young people.
She encouraged the players to stay dedicated, work as a team, and continue chasing their dreams, noting that sports not only build skills but also inspire the next generation and strengthens community connections.

Minister Simpson also acknowledged the growing multicultural diversity of Queensland and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting multicultural communities. She said programmes that promote participation and inclusion help ensure everyone feels valued and respected.
The event was attended by Nepalese cricket players, community leaders, and media representatives. The players expressed pride in representing their culture while taking part in local cricket competitions in Australia.

Community members also shared how sport helps young Nepalese migrants integrate into the Australian society, develop leadership skills, and build friendships with people from different walks of life. The Nepalese sports and community network in Queensland has grown rapidly in recent years, with many local teams participating in tournaments and community events across Brisbane and surrounding areas.

Community representatives said the minister’s encouragement has boosted the confidence of players and supporters. Young players see such recognition as motivation to continue working hard and proudly represent their community.

This interview and community event were featured on Happy Show Australia – Episode 38, a programme that highlights stories, achievements, and voices from the Nepalese community in Australia.

As the Nepalese sports community continues to grow in Queensland, community leaders hope that stronger cooperation with government representatives and local organisations could create more opportunities for youth development, cultural exchange, and sporting success.
