Kathmandu, Aug 2: The government has expressed its deep sorrow over the death of members in the expedition to Pakistan’s Broad Peak led by renowned climber Nirmal Purja ‘Nimsdai ‘.
The incident happened on Thursday, Saun 14 (July 30), while the expedition was on its way to Camp- III from the Camp-II. Issuing a press statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the death of Nepali climbers Pur Bahadur Gurung ‘Yukta’, Kili Pemba Sherpa ‘ Kilu’, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa along with Nimsdai caused an irreparable loss to the mountaineering sector.
The Ministry said that the authorities concerned in Pakistan and the Nepali teams intensified search and rescue efforts since the reports about the missing of the expedition in the avalanche. Among those confirmed dead in the incident, the bodies of Pur Bahadur Gurung and Gyalu Sherpa were recovered while the search for others continues.
The Embassy of Pakistan is facilitating to bring the mortal remains of climbers to Nepal. The expedition includes 10, including four foreign climbers who are Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy (Oman), Sohail Sakhi (Pakistan), Wang Zhong (China) and Mallory Geis (USA).
The Ministry has extended heartfelt tributes to the departed ones, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
