Kathmandu, Oct 7: An expedition team of 17 climbers from the Seven Summits Treks, a leading Kathmandu-based trekking and expedition company, has departed from Kathmandu to Besi Shahar today morning as part of their Himlung Himal expedition.

Led by Nuri Sherpa, an experienced guide, who works for SST, the team comprising five Germans, four Italians, two Australians and six Nepali Sherpas, will get engaged for a month in attempting the 7126m peak, said SST.

According to SST, as usual every year, it will be organising the expedition to Himlung, which serves as a perfect training peak for 8000m mountains in both April-May and October-November, 2024.

About Himlung
Standing tall at 7126m, Mimlung lies in the northeast of the Annapurna Range on the border of Nepal and Tibet, around 140 to 150 km from the federal capital city of Kathmandu. Unlike any other mountains above 7000m, this peak is relatively technically easy to climb and makes a fit for beginners aspiring to climb a peak above 8000m. The Base Camp of Himlung is at a height of 4900m. Generally, it takes 10 to 15 days to climb the mountain. The peak was first conquered in 1983 by a team of Nepalese-Hirosaki University Joint Expedition. The feat was achieved after four failed attempts since 1963.
