Kathmandu, Jan 22: Since frauds have been reported in the name of guaranteeing a US visa, a US Embassy official has cautioned about it. He has advised on things to be avoided when trying to get a US visa.
Following are advices by a special agent with diplomatic security service in US Embassy in Kathmandu:
I want to give some advice on things to avoid when trying to get US visas. First only US consular officer can issue visas. A common scam in Nepal is when bad actors often can guarantee a visa for money. Be wary of all others asking for exorbitant fees and guarantees a visa will be issued to you.
In most cases they just want to steal your money. The truth is all visa fees are listed on our website as well as all the organizations that help in facilitating in the visa process.
So please go visit our website. Second, many consultancies will tell you that you cannot be honest at the visa window if you want a visa. However, any lies or tempting the visa officer into issuing you a visa based on lies that will result in being permanently disqualified in receiving a visa ever in the future.
So, be honest do not lie and do not submit fake documents. It is illegal in Nepal and it can lead to prosecution. Third visas are only issued according to the US regulations.
So the next time when you are in front of the visa window, understand that the consular officer wants to facilitate your legal travel to the United States. So be respectful. All frauds against US staffs will be reported to the police. And remember if you have questions, go to https://np.usembassy.gov/visas/
