Kathmandu, Jan 23: So far, 13 Nepali men, who joined the Russian army, are reported to have been killed in the Russia-Ukraine war. Jobs at the Russian army is believed to be lucrative, but it has its bearing. A Nepali youth serving in the Russian army has requested Nepali people not to visit Russia and join the Russian army. The difficulties serving in the army and the chances of being killed in the war are terrible factors to be taken into account, he reasons.

Sharing his accounts of adversities he faced during the war, he says, he joined the Russian army and was injured in the war.

Through a video message on TikTok, he says, “I have been injured by bullets and bombs. If any Nepali youth is thinking of joining the Russian army, please do not come.” He has urged the rescue and help of the injured Nepali brothers who have been trapped here, and their safe repatriation to Nepal.

Saying that many Nepali recruits in the Russian army are running away due to gunshots and many Nepali friends like him are trapped, he has also urged the government of Nepal and the Nepali embassy there to rescue them all.

“Many brothers like me are waiting for rescue here, help us immediately,” he says, “No one should come here. It is very dangerous here. There is a 99 percent chance of being killed. The chance of survival is only 1 percent only when one gets injured during the war.”

“I am ready to be shot if my body will reach my mother and family in my country. But that is not possible here. I don’t know if I will return to Nepal or not. Whatever may happen tomorrow, perhaps I may not even be in this world tomorrow. There is no one here to speak up for us us. This is my plea for the Nepali people, may my plea reach the government of Nepal.”

Latest victim

One more Nepali man who joined the Russian army has died in the Russia-Ukraine war. The deceased has been identified as Sundar Moktan, 32, of Naukunda Rural Municipality-5 in Rasuwa district. The news of his death came 26 days ago, said Vice Chairperson of Naukund Rural Municipality, Chandra Bahadur Ghalan. Initiatives were underway to bring his body to Nepal, he said.
