Kapilvastu, Feb 9: Assistant Ambassador of Germany to Nepal, Dr Stephan Russek, arrived in Kapilvastu to take stock of the UNDP porgramme here.
During the visit, Dr Sussek led a team including UNDP representatives and UNDP Lumbini and Gandaki Provinces coordinator Sudip Aryal.
Kapilvastu Municipality mayor Sudip Paudel, ward-3 chair Prakash Gaire, ward-1 chair Mahomda Jahid Kha, ward-6 chair Ramu Yadav and rights activist Rabi Thakur Sahit welcomed the visiting team.
On the occasion, Assistant Ambassador Dr Russek visited the Tilaurakot Palace, the Kapilvastu Museum, Ramsar-listed Jagadishpur Lake. He observed the ancient objects in the Kapilvastu Museum. Shanti Sherma Limbu, the head of the museum, informed him about the objects in the museum.
He also reached the site of the excavation of the western side of Tilaurakot and took information about its history and achievements. Guide Raj Kumar informed him about the history of Tilaurakot and the recent excavations and the achievements made so far.
Tilaurakot has been proposed for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Commenting on the visit, Assistant Ambassador Dr Russek said he enjoyed visiting Tilaurakot and the museum.
He was happy visiting Buddha’s playground, which he said has great potential for development. Similarly, mayor Paudel said that they have also applied for Tilaurakot to be listed in the World Heritage List.
