Kathmandu, March 12: Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Inputs jointly launched by the USAID and the Government of Nepal is bearing fruit.
The $24.5 million five-year project works to streamline access to agricultural inputs and contribute to the overall agricultural development of the country.
The activity will focus on four critical agricultural inputs – seed, fertilizer, irrigation, and agricultural mechanisation– implemented in 16 districts from Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Lumbini, Bagmati, and Madhesh provinces.
Geeta Yadav, an inspiring farmer from Dang district of Nepal, is taking the lead in empowering women in agriculture and embracing innovation in farming. Learning from the project, she teaches her fellow female farmers to use seed drill machines for efficient sowing of maize seed.
Through mechanisation, and improved seed varieties, she and her fellow farmers will reduce their labor time and cost of production, improve work efficiency, and enhance crop productivity and income. Yadav is just in point. Many farmers in the district have followed suit taking maximum benefits.
The activity is expected to benefit over 200,000 farmers and their families by improving their access to modern agricultural inputs and technology.
