Kathmandu: Recent reports from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock reveal that the paddy plantation progress in the country has reached 92% as of August 18.
Delayed and erratic rainfall patterns this year have led to a decrease from the 95% paddy plantation rate recorded during the same period last year.
According to Tapendra Bahadur Bohara, the Joint Spokesperson at the ministry, a total of 1.48 million hectares of land have been cultivated with rice plantation across various provinces in the nation.
Among them, Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province have each achieved an impressive 99% paddy plantation rate. Koshi Province follows closely at 97%, while Lumbini Province stands at 95%. Other provinces have also made substantial progress, with Gandaki Province at 94%, Bagamti Province at 93%, and MadheshProvince, which faced challenges this year, at 82%.
The decline in the overall paddy plantation rate has raised concerns, particularly in Madhesh Province, known for its fertile land that is conducive to agricultural cultivation.
The decrease in paddy plantation progress in Madhesh Province is a significant issue that authorities and farmers alike are monitoring closely, as it might have implications for the overall rice production in the country.
