Kathmandu, June 7: The Australian Embassy in Nepal hosted a networking reception at the Australian Embassy to welcome fire management experts Alan Hill and Vince Cafari.
The event was attended by also Home Secretary of Nepal Eka Narayan Aryal, senior officials at Hello Sarkar, Home Ministry, National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Authority, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal, and other representatives from government and non-government agencies.
Alan and Vince currently volunteering in Nepal through the Australian Volunteers Programme will be working with the Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) to support forest fire management strategies.
The Embassy has expressed its appreciation for this collaborative effort.
“Climate change is making forest fire management more complex and challenging in both Australia and Nepal. There is so much to learn from each other,” said the Embassy.
“The presence of our volunteers is a starting point, but I would like to see a further deeper collaboration between the countries in the forest fire management through expanded institutional linkages and further sharing of knowledge and expertise,” said Australian Ambassador Felicity Volk.
