Kathmandu, July 30: Every year, thousands of Nepali girls and women are trafficked to other countries and are being subjected to exploitation. Maiti Nepal improves the lives of vulnerable people and rescues survivors of human trafficking, offering them a safe place to live.
Today, Ambassador of Germany to Nepal Dr Thomas Prinz visited Maiti Nepal’s headquarter in Kathmandu, and met with the organisation’s founder Anuradha Koirala.
On the occasion, Koirala briefed the Ambassador about Maiti Nepal’s numerous activities, including awareness campaigns, rescue operations, providing legal support to those in need, and offering women empowerment programmes.
Main risk factors that make victims vulnerable to human trafficking are lack of education, gender inequality, and lack of jobs, she said.
Within the framework of its Feminist Foreign Policy, Germany focuses on the empowerment of women and minorities. The German Embassy is involved in several projects that support the implementation of the Nepalese National Action Plan Women, Peace, Security but also specifically supports the issuance of birth certificates and other documents for marginalised populations, according to the German Embassy in Kathmandu.
