Pyuthan, Aug 13: A migrant returnee Santosh GC has been engaging in agriculture for five years and making a huge income.

GC from Tallo Gejabang of Pyuthan municipality finds it happy to be at his own village and involves in agricultural work for the income.

In the cases rife that even the youth farmers taking grants for agriculture stopped it and left for cities and abroad as well, GC’s attraction to vegetable farming is worth sharing.

He is elated in deed over the profit he is making every year. “I decided to quit the foreign job that paid Rs 100 thousand per month. So, I am working hard to ensure better income here,” GC informed.

GC also wants to give a message to the youths that they can work within country and earn equal or even more amount once they make sincere efforts. He had returned home after working in a company in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

He, however, said his inspiring figure was his grandfather. When he saw lush vegetable that his grandfather produced, he was lured to it.

Currently, GC is doing vegetable farming in eight ropanis of land. Of them, there is tunnel farming over tree ropanis of land where tomato is produced.

In a season, he earns as high as Rs 300 thousand by selling tomato. He is also assisted by his wife, Hima KC, who teaches in a primary school in the locality. GC has given employments to four women at his farm.

He recollects that he had begun vegetable farming with the investment of Rs 50,000 after registering a firm. His income per year is growing and now Rs 800 thousand. The growing benefit has enticed me to the agro farming, he shared.

The youth has 7-member family where there are his parents and three daughters together. “Last year, I had the profit of Rs 600 thousand,” he said, adding that it is better we work here rather than go abroad.

GC also viewed there is individual freedom on it. Even the okra and yard-long bean are grown in his farm. Additional list for the plantation next season are chilies and capsicum. He is planning to earn over Rs 700 thousand next year.

GC has been assisted by the Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project. Through this, he got tillers and financial grant of Rs 270 thousand for this year.

The agricultural products from GC’s farm at sold to local shop0keers and the marketplaces from Bijuwar, Bagdulla, Kwadi, and Khalanga in the district.

However, GC suggested more effective marketing so that the imported vegetables would not dominate the market in winter. Once the local levels pay heed, the farmers would not face problems, he added.
