Banke, Aug 23: The subcommittee formed to probe cracks in the “synthetic track” of the Nepalgunj stadium reached the site and launched investigations.
Mahesh Chand, former head of the Midwestern Sports Development Committee, confirmed that the subcommittee started investigations. A three-member sub-committee led by Lekh Bahadur Chhetri, a member of the National Sports Council (NSC), was formed after the reports about the cracks in the track came out. The track was constructed almost one month ago.
Chhetri said during the initial study, it was found that the synthetic track comes off the ‘D area’, and water accumulated in various places on the north-south side.
“We are carrying out investigations formally. Some technical glitches took place. We are preparing a report,” he said. Manish Kumar Shah, a technician for the construction company, said they were also studying the matter, stating that such incident was the first of this kind in Nepal.
He claimed that quality materials and technology were used in constructing the track. NSC awarded the contract to the contractor for the construction of the synthetic track at over Rs 98 million.
The contract was signed on March 23, 2023 with the completion date being January 5, 2024. However, the contractor completed the work only on June 15.
