Kathmandu, Sept 1: Altogether 36 people have taken permission to climb the mountain this autumn. According to the Department of Tourism, 36 climbers from eight groups have taken permission to climb three mountains till Saturday.
Rakesh Gurung of the Department said that 36 climbers have received permission to climb three mountains, including Manaslu. Annapurna IIII and Putha Himal.
Those who have taken climbing permits include 15 mountaineers from Seven Summits Treks, 15 from Eight K. Expedition and six from Makalu Adventure. They are citizens of the UK, US, India, Germany, Belarus, Singapore, South Korea, France, Switzerland and Belgium.
Manasalu climbing is considered suitable for autumn season due to good weather conditions. Last year, 301 climbers, including 65 women from 26 climbing groups, took climbing permits for Manaslu.
Informing that informal discussions are underway between the Department and stakeholders to make the Manaslu climb organised and safe, Gurung said the climb starts by the end of this month after opening a route to the peak of Manaslu.
Last year, the first ascent was done in Manaslu on 17 September, 2023. Since the winter season is considered as the preparation time to climb Mount Everest, climbers have been attracted towards Manaslu, Cho-Oyu, Dhaulagiri, Annapurna III, Amadablam and other mountains. The Department generally opens mountain climbing in spring in March, April, May, September, October and November.
