Kathmandu, Sept 10: Sports Institute of Yunnan University, Yunnan, the Traditional Archery Association Yunnan and Kunming Zhengji Archery Club, Yunnan, have expressed commitment to support archery, wushu and boxing in Nepal.

During the meeting with representatives of Nepal Wushu Federation, Martial Arts Organisation of Nepal and National Sports Council at Yunnan of China, Chief and office-bearers of Yunnan University expressed the commitment, said NSC member and Chairperson of Nepal Boxing Association, Prakash Kumar Kusari.

Vice-President of Nepal Wushu Federation, Abhishek Bikram Shah, and Deputy General-Secretary Rajeev Maharjan were also present on the occasion.

After the discussion, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding in this regard.  Vice-President Shah and President of Traditional Archery Association, Yunan, Cong Wizhang, signed the MoU.

The 11-point MoU stipulates exchange of visits by instructors; the university and the Association providing training opportunity to Nepali players; jointly organizing at least one programme in a year; providing the assistance required for producing new players; conducting cultural exchanges and social awareness for the development of traditional archery, Wushu and wrestling; encouraging participation in competitions and running a games awareness campaign as well.

Vice-President Shah expressed the belief that the MoU will contribute to promoting the cultural tourism along with the sports.

During the discussions, NSC member Kusari expressed gratitude, saying China has been continuously providing support to the sports sector as well as to the development of sports infrastructures in Nepal. He expected that this cooperation will be continued also in the coming days.

Vice-President Shah expressed the belief that Nepal could produce outstanding results in the Asian and South Asian competitions if archery and Wushu could be taught at the school-level itself.

President of the Traditional Archery Association Cong and officials Wang Jongping and Wang Fan said Nepal is China’s good neighbour, and expressed the confidence that exchange of bilateral cooperation will further contribute to strengthening the relations at the people’s level.
