Kathmandu, Sept 28: As many as 63 places of 23 roadways across the country are fully blocked due to torrential rains that triggered landslides and floods, according to the Department of Roads.

As per the preliminary reports collected by the Department as of noon today, traffic movements were severely affected in majority of the road sections in the hilly and mountainous areas.

Arjun Aryal, Chief of the Maintenance Division under the Department, told RSS that 23 roads were blocked at 63 places and all checkpoints entering into Kathmandu Valley were shut down currently.

He shared that staffs of the Division had not been able to reach out to those places where traffic movement was obstructed. “All details could not be collected due to disconnection of electricity and internet in the affected areas. It is just a preliminary report,” he mentioned.

The Bagmati Bridge in the Kanti Lokpath is also at high risk after the gates of the Kulekhani reservoir were opened today morning.

The flooded Roshi river caused damages along the Prithvi Highway.

Moreover, most of the bridges were at risk of collapse or getting swept away due to raging rivers, he added.

As per the Department of Roads, the Tribhuvan Highway is completely blocked. Traffic has been impeded by the landslide in the Kathmandu section of Sirsiya-Kathmandu road via Hetauda as well as the Naubise-Pokhara road under the Prithvi Highway.

Similarly, Kathmandu- Kodari Highway via Dolalghat has been blocked. Traffic movement in a road section of Dhading district has been halted following a landslide at Kamere.

Likewise, the flood wiping out Larcha Bridge of Sindhupalchowk caused disconnection, according to Aryal. Landslide at Kerabari of Parbat district has impeded traffic movements in Tansen-Ridi-Korala road section under the Kaligandai Corridor.

Landslide has been reported at Raksya and Baralla areas of the same road section.

Furthermore, road has been blocked due to landslide at Ramri of Salyan district at Ameliya-Tharmare Musikot road section under the Rapti Highway.

Belhiya-Pokhara road via Bhairahawa under the Siddhartha Highway and Bhadare area of Okhaldunga district under the Mid-Hill Highway have been obstructed by landslides.

Additionally, landslide has been reported at Bhedetar-Rabi-Ranke road section in Panchthar district.

Nuwakot district also witnessed damages and obstructions of the Thori-Syaphrubesi road section via Malekhu, and the Balaju-Syaphurbesi section via Dhunche.

The Bheri corridor’s obstruction is on Chhinchu Marim section via Jajarkot, while Mechi highway, Kechana-Olangchungola section via Taplejung, Madar-Okhaldhunga-Salleri section via Udaypur are also obstructed with landslides and floods.

Along the Sahid highway, Koilabas-Rukum section via Ghorahi, as well as Narpani-Sandhikharka through Khumti of Arghakhanchi, Khokseli and Chisapani of Khotang, Rittabot of Sindhuli, Phikkal, Harjeni and Salghari under the Pushpa Lal highway are flooded.

Vehicular movement has been completely disrupted along the Chatara Bridge to Baraha area of Tamor corridor, Ridi-Surkhet section through Pyuthan, Dumre-Chame section via Besisahar,  and Hetauda-Ekatantakuna section via Bagmati under the Kanti highway.

Landslides occurred at Manedhovan of Lalitpur under Gwarko-Dahaltar, Sisneri of Dakshinkali municipality-8, Pharping of Kirtipur municipality-6 and Tribhuvan University Service Commission of Kirtipur municipality-10 as well as Lele Tikabhairab of Godawari municipality-6.
