Kathmandu: The French Embassy in Nepal recently welcomed renowned mountaineer Alasdair McKenzie on October 18, following his remarkable achievement of climbing all 14 of the world’s highest peaks. During the meeting, McKenzie presented the French flag that traveled with him to every summit, a meaningful gesture that added significance to his incredible journey.
The French-Nepalese connection through mountaineering is a long-standing one, dating back to Maurice Herzog’s historic ascent of Annapurna in 1950—the first 8,000-meter peak ever climbed.
The embassy noted that next year marks the 75th anniversary of this milestone, underscoring the deep relationship between the two countries, united by their passion for the world’s most challenging mountains.
