Washington DC (America), Nov 8: The Chhath festival dedicated to the Sun god was observed in the United States of America as well.
The festival which is considered a common cultural symbol of the Tarai-Madhesh and observed there with much significance, was celebrated in New York, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, California, Pennsylvania and Ohio featuring the noticeable Nepali population.
The Nepali Hindu community visited nearby temples to pay homage to the Sun, wishing for the well-being, prosperity, and progress of the family and community.
In the Chhath festival celebration coordinated by the Nepal Education and Cultural Centre at Germantown, Maryland on Thursday, many Nepali devotees joined the celebration.
Organiser Mohan Yadav said the Chhath celebration has been taking place in a Nepali temple for the past few years. He said they are happy to find the moment to pass on the religious, cultural and spiritual significance and values of the festival to the next generations.
In some areas, the Nepali community observed the festival within their homes and communities.
