Barahathawa (Sarlahi), Dec 17: A school development fund has been set up at Bagmati municipality so that generous people will deposit amount in the fund. Those celebrating marriage anniversaries and birthday parties would curtail the spending and chip in to this fund so that it would help in developing a local school named Janabal Kalyan Secondary School located at Dharahara of Bagmati municipality-2.

The initiative for this was launched by the locals, social activists and former students of the school in a bid to support school in enhancing quality education and teaching learning. The revolving fund came into existence since November 16.

The deposit in the fund has reached Rs 130 thousand so far, according to Principal Prakash Kumar Jimba. At a time when the school was reeling under financial shortage, the initiative launched by the generous people was expected to contribute to quality education, he added. He further informed that the interest generated from the revolving fund would be utilized for the educational programmes.

Chairman of school management committee, Tank Bahadur Bohara, said it was also the scheme to increase guardians’ engagement in school activities, thereby inculcating the feeling of ownership to them. It is also reflected in the improvement in teaching learning, he shared.

The result of such initiative can be noticed gradually, according to him. “We have paid heed to the physical and educational reforms in the school of late,” Bohara added.

Lately, the school running class up to Grade 10 has witnessed twofold increase in the enrollment of students. Earlier, there were hardly 300 students, but now the number stands at 610. Meeting the guardians’ demand and children’s aspiration, the school began running classes in both English and Nepali mediums.

School teacher Nirmal Timalsena also informed that the launch of English medium had attracted the students and guardians alike. The school is focusing on practical and moral education to the students in addition to regular curriculum. There are four digital boards in the schools managed from the fund.
