Kavrepalanchowk, Jan 4: Over 16,000 adolescent girls studying from Grade 6 to 10 in Kavrepalanchowk district will be vaccinated against HPV, the leading cause of cervical cancer.

The vaccination programme is a part of the nationwide HPV vaccination campaign to be launched from February 4 to February 18.

Girls between 10 to 14 years of age will be inoculated with the single-dose of human papillomavirus (HPV), according to the District Health Office.

The Office said that all preparations for the vaccination drive was over. Office Chief Ragishree Kashapati Shrestha shared that girl students from 252 community schools and 84 private schools in the district and even those outside school’s reach will receive the vaccine.

The vaccine certified by the World Health Organization will be administered to the eligible adolescent girls in the vaccination centres set up at schools and healthcare centres.

Cervical cancer, according to a statistics, has been detected among 2,200 women on average in Nepal every year, while around 1,300 women succumb to this disease annually.
