Government’s budget spending recorded at 1,523 billion, revenue at 1,219 billion in last FY

Kathmandu, July 18: The government’s revenue and expenditure both have appeared weak in the last fiscal year 2024/25. The statistics shared by the Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) shows the government’s revenue has shrunk to 82 per cent and expenditure to 81 per cent compared to the annual target.

The government had brought a budget of Rs 1860 billion 303 million for the last fiscal year. By the end of Ashad (July 16, 2025), Rs 1523 billion 106 million 800 thousand has been spent. This is equivalent to 81.87 per cent of the annual target. Rs 1,140 billion 664 million 500 thousand was allocated towards the current expenditure heading for the last fiscal year, out of which 85.95 per cent, which is Rs 980 billion 282 million 100 thousand, has been spent.

Similarly, an allocation of Rs 352 billion 354 million has been made under capital heading, out of which 63.2 per cent or Rs 222 billion 682 million 300 thousand has been spent.

The FCGO stated that out of the budget allocation of Rs 367 billion 284 million 500 thousand allocated under the financial management heading, 87.14 per cent, which is equivalent to Rs 320 billion 424 million, has been spent.

The government’s revenue is also significantly lower than the target. For the last fiscal year, the government had set a target of collecting Rs 1,471 billion 629 million 500 thousand, but only managed to collect 82.88 per cent of the target, which amounts to Rs 1,219 billion 718 million 600 thousand. Comparing the government’s income and expenditure, the government has spent Rs 303 billion 380 million more than its income.
