Gorkha, July 20: To help tourists visiting the Manaslu Conservation Area in northern Gorkha identify the trail and make travel easier, additional marking poles and signposts have been installed at various points along the trekking route.
Santosh Sherchan, head of the Manaslu Conservation Area Project (MCAP) office, said that in the fiscal year 2081/82 (2024/25), marking poles and signposts were added at 53 different locations along the trail. According to him, signposts were installed at 35 locations to provide information to trekkers, while marking poles were placed at 16 spots along the path.
Under the trail, marking poles have been added at various points from Larke Bazaar to Bhimthang in the Nubri Valley Area. The total number of marking poles between Larke Bazaar and Bhimthang now stands at 124, up from 108 previously.
Similarly, signposts have been added in the Chum Valley area along the trail, including 19 on the route toward Ganesh Himal, 14 in the Nubri Valley, and two at Sirdibas, Sherchan said. Sherchan further explained, “With these signposts, tourists visiting the Manaslu Conservation Area can easily know where they are, the altitude of their current location, the estimated time to reach the next destination, and information about local wildlife.”
He also noted that the marking poles are particularly helpful during snowfall when the trail can become obscured by snow, making it easier for trekkers to identify the path. MCAP has plans to install marking poles at 25 additional locations and signposts at 35 more spots in the fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26).
