Lalitpur, Sept 7: The Patan Durbar Square, which has been listed in the world heritage sites, has been beautified with the use of traditional bricks called Telya.
The world heritage site in Lalitpur district has restored originality after Lalitpur Metropolitan City laid down Telya bricks. The locally manufactured Telya bricks has replaced the Chinese bricks.
The Metropolis invested around Rs 15.2 million for this. Telya brick is a historic, having its roots to the Malla period. It is also considered strong, durable and beautiful.
Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan said, “Telya brick is an indigenous brick. It is very bright and durable. We laid new Telya bricks to protect heritages.” He added that the Chinese bricks were laid during coronation of the then King Birendra Shah that had deteriorated over the time, and now Telya bricks have been laid by removing the Chinese bricks.
A local Upendra Kumar Shrestha shared Patan Durbar Square has now become a clean and more beautiful after Lalitpur Metropolis used Telya bricks. It is a positive work of the Metropolis, he appreciated.
The local level, which is continuing the maintenance and reconstruction of the Durbar area, expressed commitment to continuing the preservation of the originality of this area.
