Gorkha, Sept 9: A palanquin containing the Fulpati has been sent from the Dashain Ghar in Gorkha Durbar to be carried all the way to Hanumandhoka Durbar in Kathmandu.
Fulpati is an assortment of flowers, leaves, and fruits of different plants considered auspicious, and it is anointed at the Dashain Ghar on the seventh day of the Bada Dashain festival.
As part of the Bada Dashain festival, the Fulpati was ritually prepared and sent off at an auspicious hour of 7:30 am today. According to Bishnu Prasad Pathak, Chief of the Gorkha Durbar Care Office, traditional rituals were performed by the caretakers (Susaare) of Gorkha Durbar before dispatching the Fulpatito Hanumandhoka Durbar.
The Fulpati is carried to Kathmandu following Vedic rituals to be received at the Dashain Ghar of Hanumandhoka Durbar, continuing a centuries-old tradition.
The tradition dates back to the time when the then King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha began his rule from Hanumandhoka Durbar in Kathmandu. Since then, on the seventh day of Bada Dashain, a major festival of Nepal, a palanquin carrying the Fulpati has been sent from the Dashain Ghar of Gorkha Durbar to Hanumandhoka Durbar.
The assistants carry the Fulpati up to a place called Fulpati Chautara at Satipipal, where it is placed on an official vehicle (Ba 2 Jha 3882) to be transported to Kathmandu
