Kathmandu, Oct 31: The World Cities Day is being marked today in various countries around the globe with the theme ‘People-Centered Smart City’ to impart the message of sustainable urban development and cooperation.
It is a UN observance that encourages international cooperation and highlights the importance of cities as centers for human advancement and development.
At the call of the United Nations, a special programme is being held today in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, on the occasion.
The day, which has been observed since 2014, features global special programmes in different cities each year. The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote global cooperation in building sustainable and equitable cities to address worldwide challenges such as housing crises.
