Kathmandu: The Embassy of Nepal in London, along with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the British Library, on Tuesday commemorated the 100th anniversary of the Nepal-UK Treaty of Friendship.
The event showcased historical materials related to Nepal and Nepal-UK relations. Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal highlighted the growth of the relationship in the past century and its expansion into development partnerships, trade and investment, tourism, diasporas, British Gurkhas, and other areas.
British Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, pledged support for Nepal’s sustainable economic development and graduation from the status of the least developed country.
The Ambassador of Nepal to the United Kingdom, Gyan Chandra Acharya, expressed his gratitude for the United Kingdom’s continued support of Nepal and highlighted the importance of the exhibition in strengthening the historical ties between the two countries.
The Head of Collections at the British Library, Xerxes Mazda, spoke about the Library’s ongoing commitment to preserving and digitizing historical materials related to Nepal and its long-standing relationship with the country.
The Embassy of Nepal thanked the British Library for preserving and digitizing historical materials from Nepal.
