Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has said feeble laws on cyber security have posed privacy threats to citizen and government. Minister Sharma viewed security is major concern at present in the wake of thriving IT use. Sharma, who is also the spokesperson of government, gave such statement while inaugurating a national conference on communication, cyber policy and law, on Saturday.

She shared that government was making preparation to bring laws on cyber security. The misuse of IT especially by the children and teenagers has resulted into hosts of problems, she said, adding that utmost public awareness on use of social networking sites is necessary. She also informed that Nepal Telecom had conducted a study on status of communications in Dang district.

The Minister however said everyone has to have access to IT. Government is moving ahead as per need assessment. According to her, use of IT could be expanded for income generation. The participants in the conference discussed extensively on computer, IT, cyber security, policy and laws and shared knowledge and experiences on it.
