Kathmandu: The budget of the Lumbini province government for the fiscal year 2080/81 was approved by the majority. A meeting of the provincial assembly on Wednesday endorsed the budget for the next fiscal year.
Province Minister for Finance Dhan Bahadur Maski presented a bill seeking consideration for the endorsement of the executive budget proposal at the province assembly.
Speaker Tularam Gharti announced that the budget proposal was endorsed by the majority on the basis of the voice vote. The finance minister had presented a budget of around Rs 40 billion 479 million for fiscal 2080/81 in the provincial assembly on behalf of the government.
The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has been protesting the budget proposal put forth by the provincial government. It resulted in the obstruction of the province assembly for four consecutive days. The province assembly meeting continued its business after a dialogue between Chief Minister Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary and the main opposition leaders on Tuesday.
Lumbini province government has come up with a budget of Rs 13 billion 633 million (33.68 percent) towards the recurrent category, Rs 23 billion 256.9 million towards capitalized category (57.45 percent) and Rs 3 .58 billion (8.87 percent) towards fiscal management.
