Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said everyone’s support, sympathy and goodwill helped him come out of the pain during the difficult hours following the death of his life partner Sita. Addressing a condolence programme organized at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar today in commemoration of the 7th day of the passing of his wife Sita, he said he has felt the solace from all sides has inspired him to become more responsible to the country and society. PM Dahal recalled on the occasion that Sita resolutely stood by his side all along as far as permitted by her physical health even during the painful period after losing their son and a daughter.

He said efforts were made for treatment employing all kinds of available and beneficial treatment methods without taking any allowance from the State. “We were worried after Sita was bed-ridden lest the last stages would be painful. There was the anxiety that may be we will have to see a heartbreaking death in ICU or ventilator in the last stages of her life. But Sita, who had not learnt to inflict even a slight pain on others during her lifetime, choose a peaceful death,” PM Dahal said. He stated that he feels the respect and the tributes that Sita received from the hospital to the party office and from the Aryaghat to Baluwatar is the justice and honour bestowed upon her by the people for her sacrifice and dedication.

According to him, the public sentiments and the large number of people who turned up at the funeral have reminded his family of a bigger responsibility towards the country and the people. He said he got the inspiration that he needs to be more active and play a dynamic role during his remaining life for ending the economic, social and cultural inequalities that are extensive in Nepali society. “During this hour of grief, we received heartfelt sympathies and solidarity from the friendly nations and all the heads of state and government from around the world.

The condolences and sympathies extended to us by the diplomatic community, political parties and their leadership, the media sector, bureaucracy, security bodies, intelligentsia, litterateurs, artists, music composers and singers, entrepreneurs and all sectors of society have ameliorated our pain and grief,” the PM said on the occasion. PM Dahal, on behalf of the government, party, family and his own, extended gratitude for the sympathy from all sides.

Vice-President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, former prime ministers, ministers, lawmakers, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions, chiefs of security bodies, leaders and cadres of different political parties were present in the condolence assembly. A documentary incorporating personal and political contribution of PM Dahal’s wife, Sita, was screened on the occasion. Sita Dahal passed away on July 12 at the age of 69.
