A team of the Volunteer Crops Nepal (VCN) and RNA 16 have jointly launched rescue efforts and relief distribution in the earthquake-hit Nalgad Municipality in Jajarkot district.
As part of the rescue operations and relief distribution, at least 18 quake victims were provided with first aid before being taken to hospital, said Arun Sainju, the VCN National Coordinator, who is also part of the rescue mission. Similarly, food items, documents, clothes and jewellery items were retrieved from at least 10 affected houses in the municipality-3.
Meanwhile, the team of volunteers together with other volunteers have been working on the ground to help those affected by the earthquake. They are building temporary bamboo shelters with the use of tarpaulins for the affected. “We are working tirelessly on the ground to support the quake victims,” said Sainju.
VCN is a humanitarian, non-profit agency which provides emergency relief, economic rehabilitation, development assistance and volunteer services to vulnerable communities in Nepal while RNA 16 is an organisation working for rescue and awareness for 16 type of disaster.
“Together with local authorities, Armed Police Force, Nepal Police, Nepal Army and community members, we are focused on saving lives and providing much-needed support through search and rescue missions, offering medical aid, and supporting the construction of makeshift shelters for the affected.”
In the midst of chaos and devastation, our team have braved difficulties and showed solidarity, he said offering thanks to those all for standing together with the team in saving lives, and giving encouragement during the difficult time.
He also expressed the team’s commitment to continue assisting the affected people and helping in the reconstruction and supporting the healing process.
At least 157 people were killed and 197 injured in the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred on 3 November, 2023 with its epicenter at Ramidanda of Barekot Rural Municipality in Jajarkot. Among the casualties, 105 were from Jajarkot. The quake was the deadliest since 2015 when around 9,000 people were killed in the 2015 earthquake. Around 8,000 public and private houses were damaged in the Jajarkot quake.
