Kathmandu, Dec 2: USAID Nepal has announced the official launch of the Feed the Future Nepal USAID Agricultural Inputs Activity. The USAID’s initiative means to transform Nepal’s agriculture sector through improved input access, it has been said. Agriculture is the backbone of Nepal’s economy, providing livelihoods for more than 60% of the population.
Over the next five years, together with the Government of Nepal, private sector, and civil society, USAID aims to improve the availability, accessibility, and use of critical agricultural inputs: fertilizer, seed, irrigation, and agricultural equipment. “We will enable over 200 lead firms, agrovets, input suppliers, and local machinery service providers to boost agricultural productivity.”
This is expected to contribute to stronger input supply chains, competitive markets, and an enabling environment that will positively impact 200,000 farmers. This activity was co-designed with key leaders and stakeholders from the agriculture sector. “Together, we’re working towards a more sustainable and resilient agriculture sector that benefits all,” said the USAID.
