Bara, Dec 31: A basic school at Aadarsha Rural Municipality-5 in Bara is struggling without physical infrastructures. The situation is so worst that children carry sacks with them from home so they can sit on them in school. Nera Basic Tedhakatti School has hundreds of students but lacks infrastructures like tables and benches for children to sit.
The situation is getting worse during the winter. Without necessary furniture, students who are forced to study sitting in sacks brought from home have complained that they get colds, fevers and other physical problems when they have to sit on the cold floor.
Health of the students has been affected as they are forced to sit on the ground during the cold winter, said school teacher Rambabu Prasad Yadav. As a result, the number of students is increasing due to cold, he added.
Since the classrooms are not enough to accommodate students, the school is forced to run classes by keeping students of three grades in a single classroom, he said.
Local people have complained that children are forced to study on the cold floor thanks to the lack of funds, apathy of the government and negligence of the school management committee.
Locals said they have repeatedly asked the local government for help, but to no avail so far.
No authorities concerned have shown concern about the situation of the school and are interested in doing the needful, complained the locals.
The school which has around 400 students offers classes from grade one to five. Majority of the students are from poor Dalits and backward communities.
