Kathmandu, March 14: Sara Minkara, Special Advisor on International Disability Rights, has arrived in Nepal. During her visit, Minkara is scheduled to meet with government officials, civil society organisations advocating for people with disabilities, and USG alumni.
She will also have an opportunity to learn about USAID Nepal’s work with partner organizations in advancing inclusive development, it has been said.
SAIDR Minkara leads the U.S. comprehensive strategy to promote and protect the rights of persons with disabilities internationally.
Her team accomplishes this strategy through four focus areas: fostering accountability and capacity-building; promoting disability-inclusive democracy; advancing the human rights of persons with disabilities in countries experiencing crises; and disrupting the narrative on disability that marginalises persons with disabilities.
Since her appointment in 2021, she has traveled to over 25 countries, engaging with government officials, industry leaders, and civil society to support their efforts toward greater disability inclusion.
Her work emphasizes the importance of “disability diplomacy” in navigating nuanced relationships with the U.S.’s international partners, as well as raising global awareness to the economic, social, and political benefits of including persons with disabilities.
