Solukhumbu, Aug 16: Snow lakes have outburst today in the Khumbu region, washing away villages at Thame in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5. A hotel and two houses in Thame village were swept away by the flood.
Mingma Sherpa, Chairman of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, confirmed the outburst of the lakes. Chief District Officer Devi Pandey confirmed that the flood has caused damage in Thame village, and the water flow in Dudhkoshi river has increased. He said that the local residents of the area have been asked to be alert as the Dudhkoshi river has been flooded.
Pandey said security personnel have been dispatched from Namche to the affected area for rescue operations. It takes five hour’s walk to reach the affected area from Namche. According to the police, exact details of the damage are yet to come by.
