Madhyabindu (Nawalparasi), Nov 11: Hupsekot Rural Municipality of Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) has decided to provide cash subsidy of Rs 20 per liter to the milk producer farmers.

The rural municipality that has been providing subsidy amount of Rs 7.5 per liter as of the last fiscal year has increased the amount to Rs 20 per liter since this fiscal year, informed Hupsekot Chairperson Laxmi Devi Pandey.

In order to reach the subsidy amount to the small farmers, it would be provided based on the volume of milk sold through cooperatives in a fiscal year, she further said.

“We have made arrangements to provide subsidy based on the annual data provided by the milk cooperatives within the rural municipality”, she said, adding, “Our main goal is to increase milk production within the rural municipality by encouraging the farmers”.

According to the annual budget of the rural municipality for the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, a cash subsidy of Rs 20 will be provided per liter of milk sold by the farmers associated to the milk cooperatives within the rural municipality.

It may be noted that the rural municipality had started providing subsidy of Rs 5 per liter since the fiscal year 2078/79 BS in order to increase milk production.

Pandey claimed that the arrangement has benefitted the small farmers of the rural municipality.
