Dadeldhura, Nov 16: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the constitution should be amended in the national interest. He said so while addressing a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union here on Friday.

On the occasion, he said that an agreement has been made to amend the constitution as per the national need, stressing that the two coalition partners – the Nepali Congress and the UML – were ready for the constitution amendment in the national interest, and other parties would also be taken on board in this process.

According to him, other parties will also be included to achieve the two-thirds majority required for the constitution amendment.

Stating that he has been hearing in the media that the present ruling coalition is falling apart, the NC President dismissed this and said this will not happen. “I do hear through the media of the coalition falling apart. It is only there in the press and nothing more,” he added.

The NC president said this government will last its full term until 2084 BS, citing the written agreement between the NC and the UML on this.

He also said that it would be wrong to say the incumbent government took somebody into custody as a cooperative fund fraudster out of political vendetta. He said the police is carrying out its works in deference to the laws of the land and anyone found guilty in misappropriation of cooperative funds should be brought to book.

The Nepali Congress president is currently in his home district to attend various party-related programmes. He will return to Kathmandu only after attending the religious fair at the Ugratara Temple here today.
