Kathmandu – The Millennium Challenge Account Nepal (MCA-Nepal), in collaboration with the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), is making significant strides in modernizing Nepal’s power infrastructure through the construction of a 315 KM, 400 kV power transmission line.
This ambitious project is a cornerstone of the MCC Nepal Compact, a landmark partnership aimed at bolstering Nepal’s energy sector and fostering sustainable economic development.
The transmission line, which will play a critical role in enhancing Nepal’s electricity grid and cross-border energy trade with India, is divided into three main segments.
The first segment spans 117 KM, connecting Lapsiphedi to Ratmate and Hetauda, ensuring a stable power flow through key regions.
The second segment covers 90 KM from Ratmate to Damauli, bridging vital areas within the country’s energy network.
The final segment extends another 90 KM from Damauli to Butwal, with an additional 18 KM connection to the Nepal-India border, facilitating international energy trade and cooperation.
In a major development, MCA-Nepal has relaunched the bidding process for 297 KM of this essential infrastructure, signaling substantial progress in project implementation. This renewed effort reflects a commitment to high-quality execution and transparency in delivering critical energy infrastructure to the nation.
The MCC Nepal Compact, supported by the Government of Nepal, is more than just an infrastructure project—it is a transformative initiative aimed at addressing Nepal’s growing energy demands, reducing power shortages, and creating a reliable, sustainable energy supply.
By improving connectivity within Nepal’s power grid and fostering stronger cross-border trade ties, the project is expected to unlock economic opportunities, attract investments, and improve the quality of life for millions of Nepalese citizens.
This transmission line is not just about building infrastructure; it represents a leap forward in Nepal’s energy future, paving the way for a resilient, self-reliant, and economically vibrant nation.
