Kathmandu : Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Arzu Rana Deuba has urged the global research institutions to do research on climate change impacts on Nepal’s mountain region; its vulnerability and carry out the risk assessment.

At an interaction programme at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) in Potsdam, Germany on Monday, Minister Dr Rana urged the global research organizations to conduct research works in the mountain region and mountain communities about the climate change impacts happening in Nepal in the recent time.

Foreign Minister Dr Rana made such an appeal during the meeting and interactions with Prof Dr Niels Hovius, the Head of Geomorphology, and Dr Ludwig Stroink, the Head of Projects and International Affairs at the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) and others.

Likewise, she said that Nepal has expected more research works and assistance to combat the climate change-induced disasters since the country was experiencing unimaginable losses in the recent years due to the climate change impacts. On the occasion, discussions were held regarding the nationwide landslide warming system for geotechnical emergencies and risk reduction in Nepal.

“We r eviewed the progress on the Early Warning System for Multi-Hazards and Extreme Floods,” Minister Dr Rana wrote on her X (formerly known as Twitter).Likewise, Dr Rana said that Nepal was continuously advocating for climate justice, protection of mountains, and sufficient and sustainable climate financing,
She shared that the women and children from the rural areas, marginalized communities and mountain settlements were mostly vulnerable to climate change impacts. During the interaction programme, Nepal’s Ambassador to Germany Dr Shaila Rupakheti was also present.
