President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed her hope that the role and presence of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) – established as a major source of reliable, credible and analytical news – would further strengthen in the days to come. In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the RSS, the State-owned news agency, the Head-of-the-State said she was happy to see the RSS being capable of transforming itself as per the need of time in the present democratic competitive era.
“The mass communications sector has been abundantly benefited by the IT innovations. Access of mass communications has been extended to society’s each level with the rise in the citizen’s fast access to news from home and abroad,” the President says. On one hand, the IT development has contributed to bringing about positive changes in the society and on the other, we are facing a growing challenges brought by misinformation, the President says in her message. She realizes the increased and additional roles and responsibility of the RSS for ensuring citizens’ access to credible, official and reliable news and information and educating them.
“It is relevant for the RSS to place its attention to the production and dissemination of audio-visual contents so that it could further increase and expand its effectiveness,” the President says in the message adding that it is the major responsibility of the RSS to utilise the State’s investment for the cause of official and credible news in the interests of the citizen. The President expresses her hope that the RSS would have its contribution to the strengthening of democracy, sustainable development, building of inclusive society and to the journey of economic prosperity. On the occasion of the 62nd anniversary, the Head-of-the-State extends best wishes to the entire RSS staff, management and its clients, hoping that the RSS would be successful in further increasing its presence and efficiency ahead
