Chitwan : Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has reminded the medical professionals to abide by medical ethics.
Inaugurating the acute oncology service amidst a function organized by the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Chitwan on Wednesday, former President Dr Yadav argued the doctors run after money do not follow medical ethics.
The doctor and nurses providing quality service are admired and promoted by the patients, he said, adding that reputation comes first before money in any profession. He urged the doctors and nurses to ensure affable behaviour and quality service to the patients.
The former Head of the State shared that he was a patient of a prostate cancer and had to visit Japan for PET scan because this facility was not available in Nepal then. “I asked then government to allocate Rs 360 million to purchase necessary equipment for this service. But the budget froze as government failed to buy the PET scanning machine,” he explained.
Dr Yadav, however, said he was happy to know that government has initiated a process to purchase the necessary medical equipment now.
He also hailed the achievement of federal republic, stating that out of total 36,000 people’s representatives at local level, 12,000 are from Dalit, indigenous, women, Madhesi, and marginalized people.
Executive Director at Hospital, Dr Shivaji Paudel, said they learned many things in 25 years and various training were organized to capacitate workforce on cancer. Chief oncologist Dr Guru Sharan Shah informed about the features of acute oncology service.
